Flutter vs React Native: Choosing on Constraints, Not Preference

Both are good. The decision comes down to your existing team, your interface ambitions, and your native integration depth.

Start with your team

If you already run React on the web, React Native means shared language, shared people, and a shorter ramp. That advantage usually outweighs any benchmark difference.

If you have no incumbent JavaScript team, Flutter's tooling and consistency across platforms are easier to onboard into from scratch.

Interface ambition

Flutter renders its own widgets, which makes heavily custom interfaces cheaper and more consistent across platforms. If your design is bespoke, this is a real saving.

React Native maps to platform primitives, which suits products that should feel platform-native rather than brand-native.

Native integration depth

Both handle common device features well. The difference appears at the edges: complex Bluetooth work, background processing, or a large existing native SDK.

Audit your required native integrations before choosing. The framework matters less than whether a maintained package exists for the three hardest ones.

Where to go from here

If you are weighing a cross-platform framework for an upcoming project, the useful next step is usually a short scoping conversation rather than a longer article. Bring your constraints — budget, timeline, existing systems, and the team you already have — and the decision usually resolves itself in an hour.

We run these as a fixed-scope discovery session with a written recommendation at the end, including the cases where our advice is that you do not need us.
