Automate the mechanical
Formatting, linting, and import order should never appear in a human review comment. Automate them and the review becomes about design.
This alone removes most review friction.
Small pull requests
A four-hundred-line change gets a thorough review. A four-thousand-line change gets approved. Reviewability is a function of size.
Split by concern, not by convenience.
Distinguish blocking from optional
Mark comments as blocking or suggestion. Ambiguity leads to either ignored feedback or unnecessary rework.
Review within a working day. A pull request waiting three days costs more than the review saves.
Where to go from here
If you are weighing engineering process for an upcoming project, the useful next step is usually a short scoping conversation rather than a longer article. Bring your constraints — budget, timeline, existing systems, and the team you already have — and the decision usually resolves itself in an hour.
We run these as a fixed-scope discovery session with a written recommendation at the end, including the cases where our advice is that you do not need us.
