Talk about work, not people
Walking the board right-to-left focuses on what is close to done. Going person by person produces status reports nobody uses.
The goal is finishing work in progress, not reporting activity.
Blockers get owners, not sympathy
A blocker raised without an assigned owner and a time box will be raised again tomorrow.
Take detailed problem-solving offline with only the relevant people.
Cancel it if it is not working
A daily meeting that produces no decisions is a recurring cost with no return. Try three times a week, or async written updates.
The ceremony is not the point. Unblocking is.
Where to go from here
If you are weighing delivery process for an upcoming project, the useful next step is usually a short scoping conversation rather than a longer article. Bring your constraints — budget, timeline, existing systems, and the team you already have — and the decision usually resolves itself in an hour.
We run these as a fixed-scope discovery session with a written recommendation at the end, including the cases where our advice is that you do not need us.
Working on something like this?
